A Practice Founded on One Simple Philosophy: You Lead the Way
Birth is transformative, sacred, and deeply personal. To unfold, it requires a space of safety, trust, and deep stillness — and that’s what I create for every client I serve.
I’ve witnessed the profound difference that continuous, compassionate care makes in birth and beyond. Drawing upon a traditional knowledge, my lived experience, and modern, evidence-based findings, I walk beside you — not in front of you. Every family deserves to feel seen, safe, and powerful as they come into being.
I center informed consent, bodily autonomy, and self-determination, always. You are the expert on your body and your baby. My role is to support your choices, amplify your voice, and create a container where you feel fully seen, respected, and free.
My work is grounded in radical compassion for those who connect with their own deep remembering of traditional birth ways, and the belief that birth is a physical, emotional, and spiritual rite of passage that deserves to be honored, protected, and celebrated.
My calling is to protect that space so you can fully claim your strength and joy.
What sets me apart is not only experience — but devotion. I don’t take lightly the honor of being invited into this sacred space. Whether we’re sitting in the waiting room of your doctor’s office, crying in your kitchen, walking through contractions, or tending your postpartum body—I show up with my full heart, every time.

WHY I SAY:
All Family Doula Care
My practice exists to serve all families — especially those who have been decentered and endangered in institutionalized birth spaces. Whether you're navigating your first pregnancy, seeking healing after a past experience, or building your family in a way the mainstream doesn’t always understand, you are welcome here.
Based in Eugene, Oregon, I proudly serve families throughout Lane, Linn, Benton, and Douglas counties — from Albany and Corvallis to Roseburg, the Oregon Coast to the eastern edge of the Willamette Valley, and beyond, I meet you where you're at.

WHY I SAY:
Love.Our.Mothers
This name is a reminder to put the focus back on the person giving birth.
The little souls who are joining us here on this plane are all very special to me, but none of them would be here without their mothers, without the people who offered their wombs, who sacrificed their own bodies to create them, grow them, nourish them, and bring them forth.
In many, many cases babies continue to exist only as a dyad, attached to these same mothers’ bodies for many months of their life afterward, dependent upon them for survival.
Babies don’t thrive if mothers aren't prioritized.
When we allow mothers to be inadequately cared for, or even intentionally treated badly in some cases, we are creating adverse outcomes that last for generations. This is a cycle that I’m willing to dig my heels in to break.
Our life-givers deserve way more respect and reverence than they’re receiving. We need to truly, actively, as a verb, love.our.mothers.

MEET Your Doula

Layla Ulam
Birth Doula (DONA) | Postpartum Doula (DONA) | Lactation Educator (CAPPA)
Founder Love.Our.Mothers - All Family Doula Care
I’m Layla, a birth and postpartum doula through DONA International, a (soon-to-be) lactation educator through CAPPA, and I offer comprehensive support to spiritually-rooted families who are actively invested in creating intentional experiences throughout the childbearing year. I create safe, affirming space — especially for those at the margins—and help families meet birth with deep presence, power, and joy.
My first birth experience was in a hospital, as a young support person for a friend, almost 30 years ago. Naturally we came in open-hearted and with so much anticipation for what was to come — we left feeling disoriented, disrespected, and stripped of all sacredness. That day changed everything for me. I was very young but I knew in my gut that birth could be different and that it should be different. From that moment on, I began working to make that happen.

What I Offer
My care is tailored for families who are seeking something deeper than just “getting through it.” I support people who approach their fertility, pregnancy, and parenting journey with intention, presence, and curiosity—who want to feel awake, empowered, and supported in every stage of this transformation.
I find myself most often called to serve:
-
Families choosing homebirth or birth center care, working with licensed midwives or traditional midwives
-
Queer families, families of color, those birthing within non-traditional family structures, or any populations who have a high need for advocacy and witnessing during such vulnerable moments
-
Families navigating “high-risk” or medically complex pregnancies, who know they will need extra support to remain at peace against the chaos of a hospital setting
-
Families incorporating consciousness expanding ritual or plant medicines as part of their spiritual or cultural practice
-
Those wishing to birth and parent with intention, presence, and deep care
-
Anyone who feels instinctively called to work with me, even if they don’t fit the mold of what my typical client might look like
I also hold space for pregnancy loss, abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth, and bereavement with tenderness and respect. All pregnancy outcomes are valid and deserving of care.
Please inquire freely if your needs exist beyond what is explicitly specified.
Work With Me
Choosing your doula is about more than credentials—it’s about energy, alignment, and trust. If you’re drawn to slow care, sacred birth, and holistic support rooted in intuition and cultural connection, we might be a beautiful match.
I offer free in-person consultations to each prospective client and am happily available via phone, text, email, or direct message to answer any questions you may have beforehand.
Let’s connect and see how I can support you in welcoming this sacred chapter with intention!
